SVOLT Revolutionizes Fast Charging: New "Short Blade" Batteries Enable Range in Minutes

  • Mass production starting December 2024: The "Short Blade" 5C battery with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) charges electric vehicles from 10% to 80% in just ten minutes.
  • World premiere: The "Short Blade" 6C lithium battery with nickel-manganese-cobalt (NCM) charges from 10% to 80% in just five minutes.
  • "Short Blade" technology for plug-in hybrid vehicles: "800 Volt 4C PHEV Dragon Armor" launches in July 2025.

Frankfurt, July 11, 2024

SVOLT Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a leading provider of innovative battery solutions, has introduced three new prismatic "Short Blade" batteries that revolutionize fast charging for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. While cylindrical cells are widely used for their high energy density and established production standards, they pose significant production challenges, including high costs and complex manufacturing processes.

Short Blade Combines Cylindrical Battery Advantages with Lower Costs

SVOLT's "Short Blade" technology offers an innovative solution to these challenges. It com-bines the benefits of cylindrical cells in a prismatic design with a simplified production method that is both cost-efficient and high-performing. This new technology increases charging speed while reducing production costs. The three new battery types unveiled by SVOLT at its "Global Partner Summit" on July 4 highlight the advantages of "Short Blade."

Mass Production Starting December 2024: 5C Fast Charging LFP Battery

The "C" rating in traction batteries indicates the ratio of battery size to charging power. 1C means a 50 kWh battery can be charged at a maximum of 50 kW. At 5C – currently the in-dustry maximum – the same battery can theoretically be charged at up to 250 kW. The new SVOLT "Short Blade" 5C fast charging battery, based on lithium iron phosphate, is set to begin mass production soon. This innovative energy storage solution can charge from 10% to 80% in just ten minutes and has a lifespan of 3,500 charge cycles. For comparison, high-performance lithium-ion batteries are designed for at least 1,000 full charge cycles, equating to a minimum of 300,000 km for a 60 kWh battery with a 20 kWh per 100 km con-sumption. These features, along with an energy density of 188 Wh/kg, mark significant pro-gress in battery technology and represent a crucial development for the electric mobility industry.

Future Potential: 6C Fast Charging NCM Battery

SVOLT showcases the potential of "Short Blade" technology with the world premiere of a 6C fast charging battery based on NCM. It allows charging from 10% to 80% SOC (state-of-charge) in just five minutes. For many electric vehicles, this would mean an additional range of 500 to 600 kilometers during a coffee break. The high energy density of 240 Wh/kg enab-les battery packs with a capacity of 100 to 120 kWh, which translates to overall ranges of well over 1,000 kilometers, setting new benchmarks.

High-Performance Products for Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles

Also new is the "800 Volt 4C PHEV Dragon Armor" from SVOLT, a groundbreaking NCM battery for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV). With an energy density of 250 Wh/kg, this battery sets new standards for vehicles with an 800-volt architecture, offering 20% more capacity in the same space. The new energy storage, which goes into production in mid-2025, allows plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are increasingly successful in many countries, to achieve electric ranges of 300 to 400 kilometers – a standard currently for many pure battery vehicles. SVOLT technology increases the electric operation percentage of plug-in vehicles, benefiting the environment and climate.

Customized Solutions

SVOLT continues to focus on innovation and efficiency. The "Fly Stacking" technology, which achieves a stacking speed of 0.125 seconds per sheet, is already used extensively in SVOLT's Chinese production facilities in Yancheng, Shangrao, and Chengdu, significantly boosting production efficiency. This technology allows for the high-speed and precision stacking of electrodes, the essential components of a battery, accelerating the production process and improving battery consistency and quality. With the new "Short Blade" cells, SVOLT offers fast charging batteries ranging from 2.2C to 6C. Technological breakthroughs continuously reaffirm SVOLT's position as a leading innovator in the battery industry.
