The SVOLT battery cell factory will be using the buildings and infrastructure of an existing, vacant former rotor blade manufacturing facility for wind turbines.
SVOLT will manufacture battery cells for electric vehicles in the new factory in Lauchhammer. Which cell chemistries will be used and which cell types will be produced in Lauchhammer is currently being planned.
SVOLT is currently developing a master plan for the Lauchhammer site, which includes details on timing, retrofitting and modernisation measures. The project is still at an early stage, where further in-depth planning and coordination are necessary.
The battery cells produced will then be further processed at other locations, for example at the module and high-voltage storage factory in Heusweiler, Saarland, which is currently being built there.
In this further processing, the battery cells are assembled into battery modules and connected to each other. Installed electronics monitor the individual cells. Several of these battery modules form the battery system (high-voltage storage / battery pack), which is installed in the vehicle as a closed overall system.
